Still working!

Working on our culture/language section as we speak. Big props to wikipedia for some technical aspects on Northeast Pennsylvania English, as well as CoalRegion.com for an invaluable list of everything in the coal region! An additional thanks to Mike O’Hara at nepanewsletter.com, and Slanguage.com for their additions to our Valley Dictionary.  And of coarse I cannot forget to cite W. Lee Woodmansee, and his handy-dandy companion to the Wyoming Valley “…You’re From The Valley!”

So, get ready for a new section of the site to go up in a couple of days!  Thanks!

A small idea…

Hello! Welcome to the field guide to the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania!

Everywhere I go, I hear people complaining that there is nothing to do in this area, and locals laugh at the thought of tourism around here.  Little do they know that this area is rich in history, and has tons of things to do.  Shops, boutiques, recreation, and tourist attractions are all over the place!  Its just that no one has organized it in a popular medium before!

Lo and behold!  The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area will finally have a field guide!  This site will contain the history of this area, from the first settlers, right on up to modern day.  We will also have a language guide, so outsiders will know how to blend in with the locals!

This blog will also be updated on a regular basis with historical landmarks, and other locations of curiosity.  Some of these places will be off the beaten path, as well as potentially on private property, or off limits all together.   A note will be made at the beginning of the post if this is the case (so you know not to bring the kiddies).   Please be cautious, and use common sense!  We are not responsible if you get yourself injured or caught trespassing!

If this blog takes off, I look forward to expanding the site beyond the standard curiosities. I would love to potentially have local event listings and descriptions, and many other things on this site.  Feel free to drop me a line with any suggestions to admin@bitwv.com
